Gila Wilderness, New Mexico

Recently my wife Heather and I travelled to the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico on assignment for Backpacker Magazine. We backpacked to a remote hot spring about six miles from the trailhead where we camped for the night before hiking back out the next day. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t cooperating and we encountered torrential rain on the first day. Fortunately not until we exited the slot canyon… And if the rain wasn’t enough, the river crossings were especially challenging as the river banks were extremely muddy. But it was all worth it since we were able to soak in a beautiful hot spring next to our campsite. After returning to our car we headed down the valley to climb up to the cliff dwellings. Awesome experience! Here are a few images from our trip.
